official weigh-day

So the scales read 236.8 this morning which is a loss of 0.8lbs this week. I was surprised it was such a small loss - the scale was giving out lower readings for the last few days, but I am trying not to be a slave to the tyranny of the scale. :) You can't gain a pound in a day - not really. You'd have to ingest an extra 3500 calories to do that (I definitely didn't ingest 3500 surplus calories yesterday). I ate more than usual this week though, and I exercised a little less than usual (the Husband Unit had a calf injury so I lost my gym buddy, which makes the gym less fun, and I only like to exercise if it's fun).

HOWEVER. I am no longer "severely obese" as according to the BMI chart: I am merely "obese" now. Next goal - merely overweight! :D So overall I am actually extremely pleased with this week's result!

This is also the first week where I have felt and seen a genuine difference in my body. The Husband Unit has been commenting on it too. It's funny that that coincides with my smallest loss to date. All of my clothes are becoming loose enough that they will need to be replaced soon. That is both a positive and a negative. I have little or no spare cash for new clothes, but it's good that a change is needed. :)

Tá an ghrian ag taitneamh go hard sa spéir - the sun is shining brightly in the sky. The Husband Unit will complete his seventh exam for his college course this morning - seventh and final. We're off to enjoy ourselves for the day. S'long waifs!

official weigh-day

Today the scale read 237.6, which is a loss of 1.8lbs this week.

If I can get to 237 or lower next week, I will be officially out of the "severely obese" category. Small victories... :)

Today the scale showed 243.2, which is a loss of 1.4 pounds this week. I'm happy with that.

official weigh-day

The scale this morning said 244.6. That's a loss of 2.6 lbs this week.

I have a really nice day planned...shopping and lunch with a good friend, followed by a walk in Donadea Forest Park with another friend later.

Shout out to Deborah who is graduating from her Masters degree today. Whoo! :)

official weigh-day

So the scale this morning read 247.2, which is a loss of 3.8lbs this week. Again, very surprising. I really have denied myself nothing. Except binging.

Kidneys still giving me jip.

And I didn't get that job I applied for. I'm ok with that.

Food:

Brunch (1pm): Pumpkin banana oats with cinnamon and peanut butter, and a sesame bagel with light cheddar.
Snack: Grapes.
Dinner: Chilli con carne (beef, onions, peppers, tomatoes, garlic, kidney beans and spices) with all the trimmings - rice, salad, corn, salsa, sour cream, cheese.

official weigh-day

I weighed in this morning at 251, which is a loss of two and a half pounds this week. Considering the Easter chocolate, desserts, alcohol and fried foods I consumed in the last week I'd consider that as much a small miracle as a victory.

Breakfast today was a slice of rye and sunflower bread...one of those big, oblong German slices. I cut it in half and ate part of it with peanut butter and the other part with ham and cheese.

Both lunch and dinner will be eaten out today, so they're variables.

I did 30 minutes strength training last night, as planned. I really enjoyed it. Sometimes I am surprised at my own strength. On the leg press I did 4 sets of 8 reps at 133kg (292.6 lbs)! (Compare that to upper body strength where the most I can usually manage to lift is about 30kg (66lbs).) I came home and made myself a delicious soy latte.

Right, I have to go do some "journalling" (barf). It's actually very helpful!

official weigh-day

Scale says, 253.5, which is a loss of three and a half pounds this week. I'm very happy with this.

Food so far has been really delicious.

Breakfast: 2 eggs, scrambled. Bowl of leftover fruit salad.
Lunch: Sesame bagel topped with pesto, a simple home-made salsa (chopped tomato, crushed garlic and a little olive oil), grilled peppers and light cheddar. This was fantastic.

Dinner will probably be soup, steak and something light and fruity for dessert (I'm very predictable).

The interview went fine. We'll see what happens!

bah

I have woken up under a dark cloud. I know it's going to be a difficult day as it's only midday and already I really, really want to eat, and lots of it.

I'm leaving now for a five hour band practice. Hopefully that will take my mind off things.

Scale says: 254.8

official weigh-day

The loss for this week is a satisfying six pounds. The scale reads 257. There will probably never be a week where that kind of loss happens again, but it's a nice way to start the process.

Me and the husband had prayer and breakfast together as usual this morning. He made eggs. One of my prayers today was that I could begin to learn to live each day one at a time. Let me give you an example of how a mind obsessed with food works.

Husband-Unit bought me a little Easter egg last weekend. It's sitting tucked away in a room we don't use much, with my drum-kit and the Christmas decorations. Every now and then my mind wanders to it. Now, you may think it's normal to crave a bit of chocolate when it's in the house, but this is different. It's not that I'm dying to eat it now (sort of). The problem is that I know we are going to eat our eggs on Easter Sunday, and that's where my mind keeps wandering. I keep having small, pathetic fantasies where I fast forward to Easter Sunday, have a cup of tea, put on a great movie and enjoy my egg. Someone save me from myself!

That little fantasy probably takes up a few minutes of every day. I suppose it is because I associate foods like chocolate with complete happiness...even though experience (and rationale ffs) tells me that this is not true.

So today I prayed that these frequent and bizarre little food fantasies would evaporate, so that I can enjoy today and everything that today entails, and not be stuck in some ridiculous limbo where I wait for the Nirvana of an Easter egg that will inevitably fail to fulfill me...

Ah, being insane is difficult at times. Still, the music's not bad.

account

So yesterday I ate:

Breakfast: Spicy pumpkin oats with 1tsp peanut butter. Strawberry tea.
Lunch: Chicken caesar bagel with rocket and red peppers.
Snack I: 2 tiny mandarins.
Dinner: 2 pork and apple sausages with mashed potato, onion gravy, tenderstem broccoli and steamed carrots.
Snack II: 1 cup hot milk (semi-skimmed) with 1 teaspoon drinking chocolate.

I visited my GP for a chat about everything. I wanted her to know what I am doing. She took my blood pressure (which was very good) and weighed me. I plan to return to her in six months (or sooner if I get sick in between) for an update. She was extremely supportive.

I walked for two hours and had a kinesiology appointment, which although interesting and relaxing, I don't think is for me. :)

Then I went to group therapy and I don't think I have processed that time sufficiently to really talk about it yet. It was an extremely raw experience sitting in that room.

I will say one thing though. I was expecting a lot of skeletons and/or hideously obese people who universally looked terrible and seemed miserable. This is not what I encountered. The age-profile of the group ranged from about 20-35, with perhaps one person over 40. They were all women and without exception, they were beautiful and well-dressed. If accents are anything to go by, the socio-economic range of the group was fairly wide. The conversation was intentional and well-directed, and both positive and realistic. The topic for the evening was "fear". Despite my best efforts I cried quite a lot and couldn't get a word out. There was lots of back-patting and congratulations at being there which I found extremely difficult. They gave me a book. I read 50 pages of it on the train home and it's blowing my mind.
